S K I N C A R E

18 January 2018

I'm not really one to delve in to deep into the beauty world, because there are a millions of other influencers that could probably help you (and know) a lot more. Hell, I'm still wearing PRIMARK foundation over here - well it does get the job done. I really like my skincare, so I thought I would put together a well concise layout on what I currently use on my skin. My skin tends to fall into the category of dry/ sensitive, so I have to be quite careful with what I put on my skin.

I must say I have gotten a few compliments on my clear complexion and I'm not prone to spot as much, however I have got some discolouration and uneven skin tone on my face. (This is when some parts of my face are lighter than other sections) Discolouration is very common in dark skin tones; I should mention that I also have a bunch of light freckles on my cheeks.

The Science-y Bit
To understand what I should put on my skin, I have to learn about my skin type. I am dark skinned which means my skin tissues are filled with Melanin. Melanin plays the part of absorbing and spreading the energy of UV lights that reduces the risk to skin damage and in turn skin cancer. That's all lovely until you realise that when you peel off a scab or get bitten, the skin tends to become discoloured and become darker and therefore allowing dark spots called inflammatory hyperpigmentation to occur. Which suck really. The old age myth that people of colour do not need to wear sunscreen lotion! When sunscreen can actually prevent pigmented areas from getting darker (daily use). If you have sensitive skin like me just be careful and double check the ingredients in the products you are using.

Christmas presents are always a saviour in January, with all the cute little skincare, bath bombs and body butters - it will definitely help you out on those skint months. I've been loving this brand, actually I lied "obsessing" if you like over the brand GLOSSIER, which has recently become available in the UK yeah! The brands ethos and style just gives me an-easy-way-to-skincare vibe. Let's talk about them...

GLOSSIER/Milk Jelly Cleanser
I have to be honest I have only used to product a couple of times, so I can not tell you it's long term benefits. It is essentially a cleanser that can be used on dry skin to remove makeup and on my wet skin as a daily cleanser. The only thing that concerns me is that it doesn't foam up but I did have found it to be soft on my skin and as a cleanser it's not bad.

GLOSSIER/Balm dotcom
What I really like about this balm is that it has multiple uses. It can be used a lip balm or anywhere on your skin that is dry and chafed. It is a very handy item to have in your bag because it can solve many of your daily skincare problems.

NUXE/ Huile Prodigieuse
Continuing with the theme of multipurpose products, this is a an oil I generally looked at and thought 'Why in the world would I need this, if I have already got products for each individual use?' But this dry oil is a keeper! It has so many properties and one that I am super eager to try out is the hair treatment - put a decent amount of the oil into your hair and leaving it for ten minutes before shampooing. Needless to say, I for one wish I was told about this product earlier. Just for the sheer fact that it can be used in my daily moisturising routine after coming out of the shower.

Sanctuary SPA/ Hand Cream & BODY SHOP/ Vanilla Chai Hand Cream
Everyone seems to forget the sheer importance of hand cream, myself included. But when you walk into broad daylight after being stuck inside all day and you see how ashy your hands are (especially in between your fingers...nightmare) it's a different story.

When I was younger my sister politely expressed that "my hands were so dry I could light a match off of them" *stern unamused face* Overall I would recommend THE BODY SHOP hand cream just purely for the scent, it is just smells so good. For keeping your hands moisturised without being greasy the SANCTUARY SPA hand cream is great and also has a very lovely Shea butter & sweet almond scent.

*My Skincare tip*

To get rid of blackhead especially the annoying bastards at the sides of your nose. Take a dental harp or bonny pins to a washed face and press in a downward motion. Repeat until you can see the blackhead being removed... and trust you will!
